Why We Started Hybrid
We both met while training on the Martial Arts mats. We both love training and helping give back to others. Both of us have trained since we were teenagers, attended seminars, and basically lived at the dojo. After attending a seminar in California, Josh was inspired to start his own school and create his own impact within the community. With the push from Lauren they started Hybrid Martial Arts together in April 2025.
When we decided to open Hybrid Martial Arts, we had many goals and a vision for the school. We wanted somewhere that was focused on Martial Arts at it's core, but a place that wasn't aggressive or intimidating. Somewhere you could go to relieve some stress, train with friends, and feel welcomed and cared for. We trained at multiple schools before, but could never find the feeling we were looking for, so we created it here.
The name Hybrid came from Josh and Lauren's roots of an MMA style program. And we also believed that the best Martial Artists embrace the best of several styles. That is why you will see a range of styles blended together on our mats and why our students feel confident and capable standing, on the ground, or in any other unpredictable situation a fight might lead to.
Our goal has been to build this school together with our students since day one
Coach Profile
Josh has been training in martial arts for 13+ years. He started training in an MMA style program as a teenager and has trained in several different programs and schools since.
As a coach, Josh focuses on making complex things simple. He has trained at top-level schools in Colorado, California, Florida, and in New Jersey. He has seen what makes great schools thrive and also what makes them fail. His coaching philosophy is fun and relaxed, but still holds students to real standards and makes them accountable.
Outside the dojo, Josh enjoys tending to his garden, taking care of his chickens, and enjoying time with his wife and two bernedoodles.

- TMA Muay Thai Level 1 Coach under Master Hung Tran
- American Red Cross CPR & AED Certified for children/adults
- Leadership and Coaching certifications across several organizations
"A true Martial Artist is someone who takes what they have learned on the mat and applies that to another area of their life off the mat. My #1 goal is to teach students lessons that will apply to their lives off the mat and help them become better people as result of their training."
Coach Profile
Lauren has been training in martial arts for 13+ years and loves grappling and hitting the pads. Lauren has multiple years of experience training and helping on the mats as a leader, but nowadays you can see her handling the business side of everything related to Hybrid Martial Arts.
Even from behind the desk Lauren makes connections with all students and is usually the first smiling face you see when you walk into HMA and the first to greet you on your first class.
Outside of the dojo, Lauren is a professional photographer, but for fun she enjoys cooking, baking, spending time with her chickens and dogs, and her family.
- 3rd Degree Black Belt in MMA at Hybrid Martial Arts
- Satori Program Director Certified
- American Red Cross CPR & AED Certified for children/adults
"My goal is to make people feel welcome as they come through our doors. I always want our students to enjoy coming to class and training. One of my favorite things about Hybrid is the wonderful people I get to see everyday."
How We Show Up for Students
We opened our doors because we wanted to serve our community better. Every day we show up for our students who are showing up for themselves.
Structure Builds Discipline
Every class has a plan. Every 8-week cycle has a curriculum. Students always know what they're working on and why. That is how we keep classes fun and positive, but also productive and meaningful.
Meet Students Where They Are
Time and time again we have seen programs and schools that lack the proper coaching to make them great schools. The first step is meeting students where they are and building from there.
Every Class Moves You Forward
We believe every class should improve your life by at least 1%, and we genuinely mean that. Small, consistent progress is what builds real mastery over time. That's the standard we hold every class to.
Josh makes it real for the class members… he has us actually get into situations with teammates so that we know how to handle ourselves both physically and mentally for when it's real.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ | Kurt Smith, Adult Student
Week after week, we learn different techniques from various forms of martial arts all while sticking with the basic fundamentals. Transitioning to Hybrid Martial Arts has been, without a doubt, one of the best decisions we’ve made.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ | Amy Cook, Family of Four that trains at Hybrid
"I'm a 53-year-old male. Life gets in the way and before you know it, 30 years has passed. Hybrid Martial Arts has given me the opportunity to get active again at my own pace. Wish I had started 30 years ago."
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ | Andrew Jamison, Adult Student
